Orientation Crew, Classes, Blue House, Charlotte's Birthday, Recess Club, Nathan's Visit

There's just so much to blog about!

Picking up where I left off:
Orientation Crew (which I will refer to as OC from now on)
was probably my best team experience since band. And that's saying a lot! I made tons of new friends and got a one-up with the freshmen as far as getting to know them and letting them know who I am. Our skit was off the heezy. Tom said it was the funniest of all the years, being 100% serious. Part of it can be seen below; it's a little video we put together one morning during OC training to promote safe sex.

Other videos from le skit:

Other than that, move-in day was a thrill. Seeing all the new faces and all the old ones had been highly anticipated, and everyone did not disappoint. Being amongst all those people makes me super enthusiastic and, frankly, a bit out-of-control. I can't help it! I had so much fun and I just love being goofy. Here are some shots of the weekend:

Classes
Drawing 2: So far so good. People generally had sassy comments about the teacher, but I like her. She's fierce and gets down to business!
Animation: It makes me really tired, sitting in there watching clips on a screen in a dark room for so many hours, but when I step back and look at what I'm doing -- it's amazing. We're analyzing cartoons, learning Disney jargon, and MAKING CARTOONS. it'ssoflippinamazing.
History of Jazz: I was SO excited for this, but it turned out to be a major let down. It's as if I knew too much about music to enjoy it. Thus I dropped and am now randomly in a History of Advertising class.
Ideation and Process: Not too interested in my teacher. She seems to think she's hot shit and is uber deep. That's fine for your own thinking, but you can't force a "spiritual" experience on a class that meets from 1-6 while the Blue House is being moved outside the window....
Sophomore Sem: My teacher is pretty hip! For my first project I made a pie chart -- out of pie and berries. It was delicious and loved. I hope every class has food!
Illustration: I love my teacher, but personally I'm off to a bad start as far as work goes in the class. I had a really hard time with the first assignment and can't seem to stay true to my personal influences and natural inclinations. It's been a rollercoaster for me to figure this all out, but I think I'm going to relax this next time and do exactly as I feel.

The Blue House
MCAD's beloved Blue House was finally moved this last week to make way for a new parking lot and sculpture garden. It's been a bittersweet process thus far, whatwith their fencing off half the campus and constructioning at 8 in the morning. I know we're going to have a beautiful, functional space afterwards, but I wish it could've started a little later in the year. I didn't get to reacquaint myself with the lawn as much as I had hoped.

Here's the Blue House being moved to its new home. A bunch of us followed it down the street in our socks and pjs at midnight. Farewell!

Charlotte's Birthday
was a mythological costume party. With that said, Owen and I went as Paul Bunyan and Babe the Big Blue Ox. Sara and Charlotte were garden gnomes. There were a lot of unicorns, some teletubbies, and a cyclops. Overall it was a solid party.

Nathan's Visit
Currently Nathan is visiting and it's been a blast! Friday night we went bowling and laser tagging with Angela and Sam. It was just the 4 of us in laser tag, two vs. two, and we were at the double-decker Brunswick place. It was SO COOL. I want to take Recess Club there, but I have a feeling it may be too far. We'll see about that! Afterwards we got some SPINACH DIP at Applebee's and then crashed.
Saturday we visited his familia out in Annandale. They're more like my relatives than my own! They're such a blast and it was great to be out in the woods, chillin in the sunshine. At one point Nathan was fishing and caught a fish almost every cast, so we decided to take the paddle boat out and aim for some bigger guppies. We headed out towards this island and he got snagged in a tree thing sticking out of the water. Whilst trying to untangle the mess, he lost his balance and toppled over on top of me, forcing all the weight of the boat onto one side, and we took on SO much water! We scrambled to rebalance the boat, but it was pretty much too late. We were soaked and it was so full of water that the paddles didn't work. So Nathan undressed, got in the water, and pushed me and the boat all the way back to the dock. It was ridonkulous and a typical Nathan-Sarah story. Right as we were getting in, the family comes out on the deck and starts laaaughing at us. Go figure! I should've known it was going to happen!
Later that evening we picked up Sara and Marissa for some Macaroni Grill and watch Inglourious Basterds, which was off the heezy! One of the best movies I've seen in a while. When we came out of the theater, there's comes Travis Hall behind us! Go figure...neither of us said anything about the strange coincidence of being at a mall in Roseville, getting out of a movie at 2:30 in the morning... And then today we're going to Sam's 21st birthday party and possibly to the Mall of America/IKEA. Can't wait!

Recess Club
This year is going to be great! Last week's meeting we played Capture the Flag with a solid 20 people or so. I was happy to see a lot of freshmen came out, but I hope we get some more boys interested! We need some brave soldiers who will get things going faster! This week we're playing dodgeball/kickball, so it should be a blasty blast. At the club fair I had about 80 signups, and heaven forbid if everyone actually decides to come! Can't wait for moooore. :)

Back at MCAD

Welp! A lot has happened in the past few weeks. Long story short, I'm back at MCAD for Orientation Crew Leadership Training. The apartment is great, the roomies are/will be great, and the activities have been a blast.

Long Story Long:
I had a lot of commissions to finish up before I left, so I completed them and now have a solid $320 in the bank with about $300 more on its way. To be honest this is the highest my account has ever been so applause for that; Sarah is finally making money. I also had a lot of summer activities left undone, so my friends and I quickly crossed them off our lists. Shenanigans included trollin' down Noland, eating at le Olive Garden, and experiencing the Chronicles of Narnia Exhibit down at Union Station in KC. I bought a little wooden recorded from the Gift Shop after a fruitless search for Mr. Tumnus' lullaby flute. It still satisfies.
Then came all the paaacking and saying goodbyyyyes. On my last night in town I nerdily went to the Purple and Gold game to watch the marching band perform for the first time of the season. We were pleasantly surprised and craved more. I think they're going to have a fabulous year. Afterwards was the annual Band Dance, filled with terrible dancing and unbearable amounts of sugary snacks. Delicious, Vicious, and Suspicious aka DVS snuck in, right past the good Doctor and relived our past for an hour or less. We danced like none other because we didn't know half the kids, and the ones we did know loved it. After a solid Cupid Shuffle and Barbie Girl, we left and had a solemn goodbye in the parking lot.
When I came home my dad and I packed le van and then crashed. In the morning I said goodbye to my doggy, Tootsie, with whom I have bonded much over the summer, and I shouted an I-Love-You to my MIA cat, Mikey. Then my parents and I hit the road with audiobooks on hand and full drinks in the cup holders.
Eight hours later we arrived at MCAD. I gave my new roomie Sara a huge hello hug and we got straight to unpacking. It was a tiresome unloading, climbing to the third floor more times than our calves care to remember. The absence of air conditioning made it an even more beautiful endeavor. In spite of it all, we got all moved in and then went straight for some battered yams and delicious sauce at Quang's. (I had been craving it all summer!)
Then we both parted our ways, neither sleeping in le apartment. My parents and I slept in a hotel in Burnsville where we took a cool dip in the pool after such a hot and stanky day. In the morning we went to fellowship and then had a last meal at Applebee's together. My mommy almost cried again when they said goodbye. Oh my mommy...
After our parents left Sara and I just sat on the unorganized furniture, tuckered out and unmotivated to unpack. We rearranged the living room a good few times before we came upon something acceptable. We'll see once Marissa gets here. I got all my stuff out of boxes and started on the kitchen not too long after.
The apartment is phenom. Despite the third floory-ness, it has many more pros. List!
  1. We're on the corner so there's LOTS of windows. Through them we can see the sunset every evening and have gorgeous light throughout the day because we're above all the surrounding trees and buildings.
  2. Wood floors.
  3. Lots o' cabinet space.
  4. No one stomping above us.
  5. I have my own room.
  6. I have my own door to le bathroom.
Etc! It's going to ripen throughout the year too. I'm hella excited for us to be 100% settled in.

As for Orientation Crew! It's been pretty rad thus far. The first day we played a game where we had stripper names and mine was Tootsie Downing. I thought that was hilarious. The food has been delicious, and free. :) We helped the RAs with their final exams by participating in real-life situations. My scenario was a party where there was underage drinking, pot smoking, suiciding, and coke lining. It got pretty hysterical at times. I was always the one trying to sneak out -- and I succeeded many a times. Muwahaha.
Tonight the OC went laser tagging with the RAs, which I haven't done since Recess Club last semester. Sara and I dressed up all sporty with our headbands and whatnot. It was a last minute thing, but made it all the better. I think if we had laser tag in place of the fitness center, way more people would be fitnessing. Just saying....Oh and on the way back from laser tag, Brian Nigus bought everyone in the MCAD van Frosties from Wendy's. Totally delcious!
And now I'm pooped. I can't wait for everyone to move in on Friday and for school to begin. I forgot how awesome being busy can be. Beats laziness any day! And I can't wait for Recess Club!

I should be taking pictures,
Sarah

Alice in Wonderland, Aunt Rita's Arrival, and Scrapbooking

The trailer for Alice in Wonderland makes me oh-so-excited. Premiere date = March 5, 2010, so MCAD pallies -- you better prepare to see it, too! The story has never particularly tickled my fancy as it has some, but imagination brought to the silver screen like this keeps me satisfied easily. With stars such as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway, this movie is sure to make a commotion.

Off screen, the Julson residence has welcomed Aunt Rita with great jubilation. In fact, there was great hooplah preceding her arrival. The day before we received news of my aunt's coming, my mommy and I were debating whether or not we would move my bedroom out of the basement and into the craft room. We decided it wasn't worth the trouble, as MCAD would steal me a month later. The fact that Aunt Rita was coming, however, changed the whole shpeel.

Quickly we removed every stick of furniture and every piece of thread out of the craft room and into the living room. With a glance about the empty living space we declared a fresh coat of paint was needed. On Monday, Swimming Pool Blue was replaced by Butter Mellow Yellow, and my bedroom was now upstairs. The next few days were filled with organizing the basement, cleaning, and scrapbooking.

That's right folks, scrapbooking. I had all the supplies for the terrifying task along with 4.5 years of high school memories just waiting to be organized into the slick plastic sleeves. Easing the pain with Season 3 of How I Met Your Mother, I finished the chore 2 days, 12 episodes, and 40 (80 if you count both sides) pages later. Glamour was not the objective. I literally taped things on like I was playing Slap Jack for a million bucks. When all is said and done -- no one really cares so long as it's in a nicely organized, storable book. And I can't say I'm not happy; I've been meaning to get that done for almost two years now!

Sidenote: I've noticed that "when all is said and done" has become a bit of a motto for me. A lot of things people value in life seem to be petty or nondifferential. When all is said and done -- no one really cares, or worse, notices.

Sidenote #2: This weekend my Aunt is here and we can't find anywhere to go that isn't a restaurant or food related. Even then, most of the restaurants are chains with no real personality, not to mention the shopping around here!

With one disc of HIMYM left,
Sarah

The Bro Code, Aunt Rita, and SarahJulson.com

Yesterday I finished Season 2 of How I Met Your Mother, and, with a major cliffhanger, I've been hungering for more (until the Netflix provides Season 3!) In the meantime I downloaded countless HIMYM wallpapers and explored the CBS site up and down, which brings me to this gem: The Bro Code. You can read more about it here as well as listen to a brief audio clip from the audio book version. It was published in October of last year, but for some reason I am just now finding it. I suppose it's due to my late-blooming love of the show.

In other news, my Aunt Rita is staying with us this weekend. It's kind of a big deal because none of our relatives have ever come to visit us, besides my grandma for my sister's high school graduation 5 years ago. I've never grown up around "family"; all my relatives live at least two states away and we hardly even exchange holiday cards. My parents, sister, and I are, I think, closer to one another than most families are, so I think that's sufficient enough. But back to my Aunt Rita.

Whenever anything big is about to happen at my house, or sometimes for no reason at all, my mom gives at least one room a whole makeover it seems like. This time it was a bigger undertaking. She turned the upstairs craft room into my bedroom and transformed the basement into a huge activities room. Yesterday we painted my new room a sunshiny yellow and my dad and I moved all the shitnanigans up and down the stairs while my mom told us where to put it. I can't complain too much; it's the first time in 6 years that I've had a door on my room.

In more other news, I bought my first domain name, sarahjulson.com. I haven't fixed it up yet, but it'll be outrageously nice to not have to write down my MCAD web address for people because it's so hard to remember. The hosting part is getting me all tungled up. Where should I host my website? And why didn't someone tell me before that I can often get my domain name free if I go to certain hosting sites?? Oh well...too bad I can't return it.

Exactly 1 month before I return to MCAD,
Sarah

NPH & Sound Effects Choir

Here are just a few things I've found whilst surfing the interweb. Neil Patrick Harris is phenomenal, and now I want to watch Doogie Howser REAL bad. First! however, I must finish How I Met Your Mother, which is promising, folks. So promising.

Also, I finally figured out how to sync my Hotmail account with my Mac's Mail application. I don't know why I didn't consult Google earlier....

The past few days I've been finding a lot of spiders on me whilst chillin in my basement. Two big neon green ones, one baby neon green guy, and maybe five tiny brown ones. I was never really "afraid" of spiders before, but ever since my epic recluse episode, I've been a little jumpy. Eesh.

And finally, my cousin sent me an email (received via my newly furnished Mail.app) with a link to a mega choir making rain sounds with just their hands and I got to surfing around and came upon this video. I'm a sucker for those choirs. In fact, choirs have always weirded me out a bit. The fact that everyone's mouths are moving at the same time and, when the choir is pro, they sound like one voice. Eesh! I get megatron creepy chills. For some reason marching band doesn't weird me out as much. It feels more mathematical. Am I saying choir is an act of God? Well, I don't know about that. But it's just as amazing! hahaha

HarryPotterHarryPotterHarryPotterohandmegandjaclyn'sbirthdays.

Woo for Harry Potter 6! 'Twas an exciting day/night. We got our red baseball tees in around 2 pm and Janessa dropped them off at my hizzle for Quidditch designs and such. After much debate on the back typeface, we started printing everything and cutting it out (with many trials and errors, might I add.)
As we were in a time crunch, mi madre helped me iron on all the shenanigans and we were done in no time. They looked awesome too! So the gang arrived at 9 and we all changed into our matching Quidditch uniforms.

When we got to the theater, there was already a growing line stretching to the back of the theater. Luckily, we had a spot saved and we skipped over about 100 crazy fans. As we passed by we got many compliments on our jerseys. Satisfaction!

Hot and bored, a few of us went to get snacks and drinks from the QT gas station down the road. When we returned, the line was moving quickly, so we hastily ran into the theater, drinks dripping everywhere, and ran to one of our five saved rows of seats. It took us forever to figure out where we were all sitting, but eventually we all found a spot and we settled in. I was sitting with DVS girls, and what more do I need?!

The group next to us decided to get up and move, so there were four magical seats open to my left. A lone black woman came up the stairs and asked if she could sit there, and of course I said yes. She was a thrill. During the movie she had the best comments. Crackin me up ALL the time. But there was still a seat next to me that was open.

Soon enough, there comes Jena Wight and her sister Joelle up the stairs, lookin for a seat. HECK YES she is sitting next to me. And that is how the JaNaSa was unintentionally reunited at the HP6 Premiere. We got to talking and she mentioned she needed a guitar player for a coffee shop gig on Saturday, and now I'm doing that! I'm kind of nervous because I don't know like half the songs she wants to sing, but hey, we'll figure it out. :) The other half of the songs that I do know include hits by Damien Rice, Ben Folds, Death Cab for Cutie, Jason Mraz, and Michael Buble. It's an oddly wonderful combination, just because i know it'll please the audience without getting too terribly poppy and cheesy. But I digress!

So we had to take pictures, of course, thus we got the team together and did a few shots. One of my favorites was the Miscellaneous-DVS pose. I think my friends and I adore group names... Anyway! We wanted to show the numbers on our backs, so we all turned around. Due to our extremely close proximity to one another, we didn't really know what to do with our hands. We started jokingly clapping them above our heads (like Dumbledore in HP5) over and over until we were automatically in sync. We didn't realize how much attention we were holding until the whole audience was looking at us and started laughing and clapping with us. It was hilarious and slightly embarrassing. I felt like a cheerleader for 2.2 seconds. Shwew!

The only other big thing that happened at the HP6 Premiere was the surprise intermission. About an hour into the movie, when Severus and Minerva were about to scold Harry, the film starts sputtering out of control and then burns up and sizzles on the side of the screen like melting cotton candy! The audience started screaming and my black lady neighbor shouts, "NUH UH THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN," (which was the same thing she shouted when Ginny tied Harry's shoe on the staircase....) So we were all laughing and jokingly (sort of) screaming at the people in the booth. I mean -- you can't refund HP fans' tickets, that's just a travesty! So the staff came out and told us it'd be about 5 minutes til it was one. A bunch of people took a bathroom break and we had a recap of the first hour. I texted Fowler in Colorado, whose movie hadn't started yet, and explained my outrage. Oh goodness. It was an intense moment in the movie too! Sheesh. Such a good night.

In other shenanigans, I celebrated Meg and Jaclyn's birthday with the girls the other night. We went out to eat and had a grand time. At one point Jaclyn spat out her birthday ice cream across the table, showering Jayme in salivated dessert. Our sassy waitress came, saw us all laughing, and left in a huff. Hahaha that was the best time she could have possibly come. After the meal, we stole Meg a balloon and drove home in Jayme's van, listening to old hits from artists such as Destiny's Child, TLC, and Journey.

The end.

Captain Bluebear and Harry Potter

I'm currently reading The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear as seen on the left. It's an adorable tale of all the adventures this bear takes, including sailing with the mini-pirates, learning how to speak from waves, and falling into a feasting trap by the Zamonian Gourmetica. There's a lot of imagination involved and constant, clever foreshadowing. What initially drew me to the book was all the delicate pen illustrations inside. It's about 700 pages and each one is a savory delight for the eyes. Even the way some of the words fall on the page are unusual, similar to that of The House of Leaves. It's not just a book, which is why I've come to love its author and illustrator, Walter Moers. You could tell he put great thought into the way in which the reader would handle and interact with the book itself. On my cover the quote on the left is a bit different; it says, "Equal parts J.K. Rowling, Douglas Adams, and Shel Silverstein". That sums it up quite nicely, if I do say so myself! I don't know if this is the best book of all time, but it's one of the funnest books I've read in a while!

In other news, the countdown for HP6 has begun! This week my friends and I are watching one movie a night at each of our houses. I get HP & the Sorcerer's Stone at my place Thursday night. We're also going to be making our own Quidditch team uniforms for the premiere. I think I'm a chaser? Or was it keeper...well. I'm totally stoked regardless! I love being a nerd sometimes. It makes for a lot of nerdy fuuun! I already know who I'm sitting by too! Janessa and Erin. Sigh. No offense MCADians, but I'm way happier to be seeing it here at home than in Minneapolis.

In other news, we got another new roommate. According to her facebook she's 32. I don't know. We'll see...Maybe we three will go through the entire wait list. Justin said a lot of older applicants end up finding their own place and cancel.

Coraline

I just finished reading Coraline! I got a signed copy at Neil Gaiman's lecture last year in Minneapolis and hadn't read it after all this time. It was a quick read, but very engaging. I particularly adored its illustrations. Something about them just made me swoon.

It's probably that good old hatching and tiny pen look. I'm a sucker for it!
Now to see the movie!

Besides reading that today, I rode my bike, took a walk, watched Ice Age: The Meltdown, and watched Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which, might I add, was surprisingly wonderful. It was one of my favorite story lines, where the main character goes through a life-changing transformation, followed by a series of uncanny events. That may be a reason I adore Harry Potter so much; nothing beats his trip through Diagon Alley where he is (and we are) overwhelmed with unimaginable realities.

Sigh.

I think I may go try to draw some Coraline-esque sailors!

Changing My Ways

A lot of my thoughts have been consumed with condemnation and negativity lately, therefore I have decided to make this an extremely pleasant post.

Let's start with the date today: July the Third.
  1. I woke up at 6 a.m. to go fishing on a mother fucking pontoon boat with my parents and some family friends. We vigilently casted until 8 p.m. this evening, withstanding both torrential rain storms and ethereal sunshine. I caught my first (reasonably sized) fish, a catfish named Clyde. At a wopping c. 16 inches, Clyde was purple and full of personality. He was the only (reasonably sized) fish caught all day, and so I graciously released him into a delightful little cove. Side note: A lot of sandwiches were consumed today.
  2. 'Tis Kizzy's Birthday. She's down in Florida partying with some of my favorite loved ones. I love her too, even her both sides.
  3. Second Christmas is nearly here! Only 1.5 hours until July 4th and the thundering outside can't be distinguished as Weather or Fireworks. The smell of sulfur fogs the air and my nostrils breathe with delight. Ah, yes. The Fourth of July. Where friends and family burn massive amounts of coal and ketchup bottles become endangered species. It really is the ultimate American holiday.
Other Spectacular Spectaculars:
  1. Last night was game night, and what seemed to be a fruitless turnout evolved into the best of all game nights. It was a Regular, something that has been irregular this summer. The Julson basement was once again full of 06ers (and an 05er...and I guess me, an 08er?). Visiting from Dallas, Texas came our freshly-squeezed Katelyn Nichols, and from the nearby-yet-oh-so-far-away city of Springfield, Missouri came Abby Grote, bringing extra delight to the party. Also joining us was Jayme McClellan, Jaclyn Dwyer, and the ever-elusive Jessamine Endaya. 'Twas my favorite of all 09 game nights, filled with laughter, fear, and racial stereotypes. I missed that fun so much. And I think it defined home for me a bit, in a sense that I now know what I missed about Blue Springs whilst at MCAD.
  2. The news is finally in! My roomies for the 2009-2010 MCADian school year are Sara Fowler, Marissa Lundin, and a Linnea Stephan (unknown but cool so far!). As requested we shall be living in Apt. 305, building 2550. I would like to take this time to welcome wood floors and arched doorways into my life! Hello gorgeous living spaces!
  3. Sarah Julson Art finally hangs on the walls de Steamin' Bean coffee shop. Not only that, but one was sold the very next day! To begin with, I am festering off high school work, but in the mean time am producing new work that I simply want to do. My goal is to be ready for the art sale so when the time comes I can sit back and relax. Let's hope my butt gets in gear!

Feeling Severely Optimistic,
Sarah

$$$$$

Lately I've been feeling like there's not a whole lot to look forward to. In high school I always had camp or trips or competitions to anticipate. Now it's just -- moneymoneyMONEY. Go to college, pay money. Get a degree, make money. And I don't feel like I get the same joy out of making art as I do music. I feel like I'm only making art to make money. Then I think, "Is it just a different good-feeling? Can I not recognize it?" Ballz. 'Tis a constant struggle. All I know is that I loathe money and how it's all anyone talks about anymore.

There's MORE to talk about.

Like what to put on our HP shirts for le movie premiere.
And whose house will hold the HP countdown.
When are we going to the Narnia exhibit?
How will I ever get to Florida --money....

I wish you could barter.

O! Craigslist...

Friday's Movie!

Today I'm working on art projects all day and watching the old Parent Trap. Also on this DVD is the Parent Trap 2, which I didn't even know existed! I am very pleased.

Very pleased.

Other exciting news:
Apparently our AMC theater got an IMAX built into it recently, which none of us knew. When my mom went to go buy Transformer tickets for a Father's Day present -- looky here! We're going to see it on the IMAX. Oh how excited I am! Bumblebee will practically be hugging me!

If only I could watch all my movies on an IMAX screen... :)

Wahee wahoo waha ha ha!

I'm feelun pretty good, folks!
Though I haven't found a typical job here at home, I'm still bringing home the bacon. In the past two days I sold two pieces of artwork, totally $205. And with more customers in line! I haven't even hung up my stuff at the Steamin' Bean either. It's kind of ridiculous because this is all high school artwork that I'm basically pulling out of the depths of my garage. I can't tell what I enjoy more -- my work or the money it brings!

Other than that, I've been enjoying some good company. Today I had another old lady/young infant gathering. We crocheted while watching Disney movies, today's film-of-choice being the Incredibles. We also had an indoor picnic (because it was blistering hot out) with some $5 foot-longs -- only we had 6-inch subs.

Then I ran a few errands for le madre and then finished out the rest of Heroes. I'm sad that's over; it really picked up at the end there. Later we had fellowship and then afterward we feasted on some Salty Iguanas. Mm, happiness is tasty.

Pahaha

That croc gets me every time!

Thinkun.

Just as Ïžylar has an urge to kill,
I have the urge to fix people.

His biggest obstacle is what good is left in him,
my biggest obstacle is others' unwillingness to be fixed.

Hokay.
1. I have been watching a LOT of Heroes.
2. I think of people often.
And the people I think of most is the people I see hurting, and I always want to fix everyone's problems. I so often ignore mine, but even still I don't care. It seems to me that I care so little about everything except everyone else. I can't tell if that's a stage of immaturity or what. It's wearisome. What's worse is that A) those people don't want to be fixed or B) they don't even realized they have a problem. Uffda.

In other news:
I am making a new website to present my portfolio.
I am making new artwork to present in my portfolio.
I am still looking for a job.
I still haven't heard from Dra.
I have started crafting with Brittney and Jaclyn.
Wednesday afternoon we are having a picnic and crocheting some more by the lake.

A sneak peak of my new website:

Charlotte introduced me to the Ïž.
Now I want to use it for everything.

Updation

Not a lot has happened, but I probably have lots to say, as usual.

Tuesday
The gang saw Up. I had so much excitement built up that I fear it wasn't as good as I had hoped. It was delightful, no doubt! But I have decided that once you add in people to a Pixar movie, it gets slightly less magical. It was emotionally moving, yes, but I was looking for cuddly monsters, tubular sea turtles, or jewish piggy banks. And the villain was really disappointing. Who could've guessed that the hero in the beginning would become the fear of the movie? Good one. Sigh. I sound like I hated it, but I didn't. It's just not my favorite of all Pixar movies. Afterwards the girls came to my place for some Scattegories and fun.

Wednesday
I went to the Steamin' Bean (a local coffee shop) to inquire, once again, about hanging my art up. The owner was very pleased at my interest and said it should be ready in a week or two. He said lots of people have asked to put things up, but when he asked to see their work, they would never get back to him. Thus, he was extremely pleased at my immediacy with giving him the URL to my rather aged website portfolio. After discussing a few techinicalities, I departed the Bean and headed to the Endayas for a celebration of a most beloved friend, Taylor.

We've been looking for a restaurant to "call our own", so we thought we'd try this place on 40 highway, Mavi's. It was a little Italian shindig that Pongs and I previously adored. The 6 of us girls carpooled over there, but when we pulled up, the windows were plastered with posters; they were closed indefinitely. We kind of laughed with irony. It just seemed bound to happen.

Shouts from under the opened black umbrella in my back seat headed us towards Red Robin, across the street. Sandy Safari was following me, so when I drove up to the intersection, the yellow turn signal forced my breaks instead of the usual acceleration. To my dismay, I heard a sudden crash just outside my window. The red SUV ahead of us had been partially t-boned by a smaller red car coming through the intersection. Blue antifreeze gushed out of the hood of the car and my friends and I stared in startlement. After a minute or two, the car backed up and pulled over to the side of the road. The SUV, however, stayed put, and I wondered whether or not I should check to see if anyone was injured. Soon enough, the SUV pulled away with a large piece of the red car jutting out of the back passenger tire. Needless to say, we took a roundabout way towards Red Robin.

We're always giggly together. It's just how we are. We have so many inside jokes that everything can become funny in a split second. For example, when our waiter came to the table he said, "Hello, my name is Kevin and I'll be your waiter tonight." And we just BUST out laughing. After seeing his look of confusion and partial embarrassment, we proceeded to explain the similarity of his name to the bird Kevin from Up. He then said, "Oh, did he blow?" We were VERY confused til he added, "Did he suck or something?" (Good save, Kev.) We said no, but everytime he came around we would CAW and whatnot. He was a silly server. With ears like a hawk, too! We said something and from the other side of the restaurant he laughs and gave a witty reply. Ooooh Kevin.... Another fun part of the night: We "seased" each other, which consisted of knighting the person to your left with the seasoning bottle. So funny.

Afterwards we played more Scattegories at le Endaya's house and then some Wii Bowling and Tennis. We made Jesus and Lord Voldie and they battled one another. Then we made some neighborhood shenanigans, jumping out of trees and flashing car lights. 'Twas delightful. We chatted until about 5 in the morning, then the rising sun forced Pongs and I to leave. We crashed at my house, happy as ever.

Thursday
Pongs and I woke up around noon and watched Pride and Prejudice. Then we took our showers and headed to Hobby Blobby to get some markers. I found a wonderful pack of Faber Castel colored pens/markers for $7.49, regularly $19.95. What a steal! Then I took Erin home and met up with my parents at Dos Amigos for dinner. Their queso is different, but still pleasing. Afterwards I came home to host Friends-themed Game Night. It was a small group, but ever-so-pleasing. We played a swift game of Friends Scene-It and followed it up by watching a few Episodes of the Office. Jayme and Taylor left, and Jaclyn, Brittney and I got the idea for a craft night. They wanted to learn how to crochet and embroider, thus came Friday.

Around 2 in the morning I emailed my band director and inquired about working for the GR marching band this summer. The old low brass teacher, Mr. Kuhlman, was offered the head band director job at Lee's Summit North High School, so supposedly they were going to be a bit stretched this summer. I'm hoping it'll be an opportunity for me to step back in and help the family I so terribly missed this year. Other alumni have been helping, and I couldn't work last summer because students have to wait a year out of high school before they can help. I hope to god I get this. It would be a blast, and I'd get paid to do something I love!

Friday
I sat around pretty much all day, painting and watching movies. Then I got a call for craft night to be immediate, so I rushed a shower and welcomed le pallies over. We went back to Hobbly Blobble for supplies and then came back to my place to watch Pinnochio, 101 Dalmatians and become old ladies! They caught on rather quickly, and now I am in the midst of crocheting a purple, white, and cyan scarf. I suppose it's never too early to prepare for Minnesota winter, eh?

Saturday
I haven't done anything today.
I reorganized my computer files, deleting a bunch and moving a ton to my external harddrive. Now I'm downloading audio books like the Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter. I can't believe I hadn't done it earlier, honestly. It's gorgeous out today, though, so battledore might be in tonight's plans. We'll see.

Love,
Sarah Julson

4.5 Day Review

Friday
Nathan and I went to Laura's place to hang out with some people. We smoked hookah and whatnot. I didn't really know anyone except Laura, but it was rather refreshing hanging out with new people. Without school it seems harder and harder to meet new people, which I apparently never thought about before. Thus I have been putting myself out on a limb for new experiences and new friends. Feels pretty good!

Saturday
The day is lost in my memory, but later in the evening Pongolicious (Erin) and I went back over to Laura's for some more partying. 'Twas and interesting midsummer's night, to say the least...

Sunday
We slept in real late and eventually departed each other's company around 3. After a quick cleanse in le shower and a revitalization of my iPod, I headed to the park with le parents and the fellowship for some music and feasting. Ditching the scene, Pongs and I headed to Frances' grad party. 'Twas a fair time, especially when my loves, the Endayas, got there. (I love it when they travel in sisterhood packs.)
After being oh so elusive, the Endayas finally made some plans with us fans. Finally, we will be seeing Up! And after they return from their Floridian adventures, we shall be exploring the Chronicles of Narnia exhibit at Union Station. Though not as good as Harry Potter, the distance is more appealing. Furthermore, the littlest Endaya, Jilly, and I shall overtake the whole that is Toys'R'Us to start our Yo-Yo gang. That's right. Just you wait kids.
We left Fran's for a nerdier excursion. Yes, we came to my place and watched all the Band Memories DVDs. And don't you make fun of me. If there was an MCAD Memories DVD, we'd probably watch it every once in a while too!

Monday
Pongs slept over again, so of course we slept in late after a late night of giggling, drunken uke playing, and weird Photobooth photos. Around 3 my mom got home, so we had the car for the taking. After getting all spick and span, I took Pongs to her next destination and I headed out for some job hunt-age. I went to the mall and applied at pretty much every store except the jewelers and clothing stores like A&F and Hollister.
Janessa (Endaya) works at Build-A-Bear, so I went to visit her/apply. I filled out the application and gave it to the manager. She looked it over and asked me a few questions like, "How would you describe yourself in one word?" (My answer was "Enthusiastic", thanks to Marissa and Flower!) Then she asks, "How would you feel if I asked you to go into the middle of the mall and shake a bell and yell that you were applying to work here?" And I say, "Oh in a heartbeat!" So of course she has a giant bell that she hands me and she's like, "Go ahead!" And so I walk out into the mall and ring the bell vivaciously above my head and scream, "I'M APPLYING TO WORK AT BUILD-A-BEAAAR!" At that point I had a flashback of Cold Stone auditions where it was like "Who can make the biggest fool of themselves and be okay with it?" I win.
So hopefully they call me back for one of those group interviews. Otherwise Zumiez is hiring, which, I believe, will be the first Zumiez in Missouri once it opens. I would totally use that store discount! Old Navy is also hiring. Mleh....I hear horror stories.

These photos were found as background images on the Zumiez site.

Two blisters later, I came home for dinner and artworking. I finally started those paintings similar to my blog header. It's a really exciting and satisfying process. Whilst painting I watched Tristan and Isolde, which was totally thrilling, and the Chronicles of Narnia. I know it's summer time when I begin watching all the movies I own over and over and over. I'm okay with it!

Tuesday
I woke up at noon thinking it was night time. It's unnaturally dark today due to the mega storm we're amidst. Our back yard appears to be flooding and I'm just praying we don't get another waterfall in the bathroom.... Otherwise, tonight is the night for Yo-Yo extravangazas and seeing Up. Excitement!

Game Night #2 + Peter & The Wolf

Tonight's theme was Disney! We had Disney cookies, Disney cakes, Disney shirts, Disney songs, and Disney games! Disney's Trivial Pursuit was the game of choice, and boy did it have some poorly written questions! My favorite was,

"Where does Pooh get stuck after he escapes Rabbit's hole?"

Priceless.
We decided next week's theme would be Friends (the tv series),
so now I'm looking forward to brushing up on my Friends trivia.

Afterwards, I plopped down to watch a movie or two, and I came across this outstanding version of Peter and the Wolf. It's a gorgeous claymation made in 2006, written and directed by Suzie Templeton. Also, it's set to the original 1936 score by Sergei Prokofiev with no dialogue. The film won the 2008 Oscar for Best Animated Short. Check it out! (I found it on Netflix Instants.)

Here's a short trailer.

I also found this video amongst my searches. It's just kind of cool. :)

Continuing my love...

Best Friends Forever

I know we'll be
together forever
For us
"Til Death do us part" doesn't matter!

You know, Best Friends Forever has some good lyrics...
After you get past the whole making-out-with-a-ghost thing.
And they are REALLY great to drive to --
something I was unable to discover at MCAD.

I also love their complete disregard of time and larger audiences.
Their songs are about living in the North, specifically Minneapolis, mentioning the Walker and Nicollet, and they speak of getting married in 2008, which is obviously a while ago, but for some reason it doesn't matter. If Beyonce were to try the same thing, it would get outdated SO fast. (And I love Beyonce!)

Now, I may be biased, and I may just be in a really optimistic mood, but seriously. I love this band. They are so much FUN -- a necessity when being in a band. You can even hear them smiling at parts. And yeah, so what if I'm from Minneapolis and I like hearing someone sing about the very places I used to go every day. I think anyone can love this. And even though it's really raw, I can somehow tolerate it more so than Tilly and the Wall (I could never figure that out). Sigh. There's a good rant. I want more BFF!

Also -- they have awesome bass lines ALWAYS.

Artwork!

Tonight I went to my high school art teacher's
portfolio kids reunion tonight and he gave
me a piece of his work. He retired this
year, so it's kind of sad. I'm torn though.

Also. I found this and really appreciated it.

Busy on the Illustrator Again

Growing up, we always had this poster of Minnie and Mickey dressed in late 80s/early 90s clothes and I just loved it so much. It was my inspiration for this little Game Night Flyer that I made today. I secretly love 90s style. Some of my friends think otherwise...

Time to get movin!

Today my mommy bought me 10 yards of watercolor paper. I have some GREAT ideas that I can't wait to put down on paper. One being similar to my blog's header. All textural and fine. Mm mm mm! I can't wait.

I also went through this one dresser and it was full of sentimental stuff. I threw out half of it and decided that tomorrow I'll put the rest into a scrapbook (something I've been meaning to do for a year and a half now).

The other day I downloaded multiple albums of new music.
  1. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
  2. Camera Obscure - My Maudlin Career
  3. Death Cab for Cutie - The Open Door EP
  4. Iron & Wine - Around the Well
  5. The Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army
And boy am I enjoying them.
I have so much music in my iTunes that I've literally never listened to, so I have decided to listen to all of it and weed out what I don't enjoy. So far my eyes have been illuminated to the following bands:
  1. Leona Naess
  2. Manchester Orchestra
  3. Maria Taylor
  4. Metric
  5. (More) Nick Drake
  6. Owen
  7. Papercuts
  8. Simon & Garfunkel
  9. We Are Scientists
  10. American Analog Set
  11. Bon Iver
Some of those I've listened to before, but nothing extensive. 'Tis good.

I LOVE MUSIC!
(That's for you, Marissa.)

Up comes out today! Who wants to go see it?! I know I sure do. I hope it's playing at the Drive-In soon because I'm totally there. But first I have to see it in 3D.

I wonder if our Imax is playing it...hm.

New Iron & Wine Album!

Web Surfage

I found these Lost renderings and enjoyed them so much! Dean also made a Dwight Schrute, and I'm hoping for other Office Characters that I just haven't found yet. Agh. I love artists.

Game Nights Begin!

I'm starting up my weekly game nights again!
I had several requests and inquiries about it,
so I spent all day slaving over this flyer. Haha

I like having things to look forward to in the
middle of the week! Just like Recess Club.
Who looks forward to Thursday nights?!
Well now the KC kids do!
Hollaaa!

P.S. I was just evaluating life, as I so often do, and I was summing up my contentedness. I'm at a good place right now because I have a job interview tomorrow, but I'm not working now, which means that I've put forth some effort but I'm not at my peak busy-level yet. I'm making some art for fun. I'm hanging out with friends in solid amounts, not hurting my parents' feelings...yet. And I have plans on le calendar.

The state I'm in is just wonderful. It's nice to have no homework to do or job to attend. Just the warm summer sun and friends to keep me company.

Furthermore: My parents ran into Mr. Rausch, one of my high school band directors, and apparently he knows the manager of Guitar Center. Thus, he said he was going to call them in the morning and give me a good recommendation before my interview at 3. Life is getting exciting, folks!

First week of summer is over!

What have I done?
Is it too late to save me from this place,
From the depths of the grave?
We all are lost.
We thought we were brave.
What have I done?

but really.
I was going to tell you all what I've done this week, but then it reminded me of that Thrice song. HOKAY.
So.
Here's the world...

but really.

I have hung out with Pongolicious every day. Honestly not hardly even trying to. It just happens. Am I upset? Aw hellz naw. It's just like last summer. We barely went a day without seeing one another.

We had a campfire out back and made smores.
We set up the tent and have camped in it the past two nights.
We crashed a bunch of graduation parties. Turns out our little group of friends was the life of the party everywhere we went. Not just saying that, it was kind of really true. I think it was our excitement to see each other, which then spread to everyone else. I love being with these people. These people including Erin, Janessa, Jill, Frances, Taylor, etc. We're so joyful.

I got an interview at Guitar Center. It's set for Tuesday at 3, which means I passed the online screening already. Wahoo. I also applied at the Steamin' Bean (A local coffee shop), but they aren't hiring. However, they're going to let me hang up some art work, so that's really exciting. Otherwise, I'm just chillin with the pals this summer.

I've also started riding my bike everyday for a good work out. My iPod and I go to the track behind my house and ride, ride, ride. It's too hilly around here, so until I get a bike rack and can go to some trails, this will do. I think it's time I named her (my bike). It's a she for sure.

Tonight I'm going to the drive in.

Later this week I'm hosting a game night with le older friends.

It's amazing how my intolerance for 'boredom' is nearly non-existent. I enjoy doing nothing for long periods of time now.

So much has changed in one year.

I'm loving life right now.

Home at long last.

As I thought, things fell right back into place here at home. I still know the exact amount of turn for each of my shower knobs to get the right temperature. The people are still gossiping about the other people. And it's still flippin hot and humid as usual.

Being home has revealed the amount of change I've gone through this year. I'm sad to say I'm not as silly as before. Or at least -- I'm a totally different silly now. Also, every person I've talked to here has pointed out my slightly acquired Northern accent. I went to visit some teachers yesterday and Mr. Hardin, my beloved history teacher, was telling me it's proven that people from Missouri are more apt to pick up outside accents than any other state. We are regionless in our speech. I thought that was really interesting. Apparently, too, people specifically from Kansas City say their highways backwards. Like we'll say '7 highway' instead of 'Highway 7'.

Another thing -- I'm not nearly as needy when it comes to hanging out with people at home. I'm content just staying home and minding my own business. Before I couldn't wait to get out of the house and see people. Now I'll get a call to hang out and I'm just like, "...I spose." This will probably change as the summer goes on, but for now. Shwew. I need a break.

This post is sounding so emo.
Oh well!

One change in my life is my need to travel light. I came home and there was all this sentimental shit lying around and I literally took a trash bag and threw it all out. I still have much to go through, but I think I'm finally letting go to my past. Good thing? Totally dude. I save a few things here and there, but for the most part -- I saved a lot of fucking stuff. Like I had a collection of Capri Sun bottles on the shelves in my bathroom. They were once Euph Juice, but no one knew that except me. Trashed. We had a fuckton of VHSes with no VHS player. Trashed. Empty cassette tape containers saved as a possible art project. Trashed. Broken mini guitar from Mexico that, even new, never played well. Trashed. A lot of fugly socks. Trashed. I made room for my books and movies and the few clothes I wear. I made room for my music. I wish I could just throw the rest out. I would, but my mom saw that look in my eye and said she'd go through everything before it really went.

Hasty McTasty.

I also felt the HUGE need to redecorate the entire basement/bathroom/HOUSE. It needs new colors and a fresh start. Everything is too 8th grade right now. I need a clean environment to function in. Right now I feel too lazy with my surroundings. I don't want everything to fall back into place.

Well.
I'm glad I got that off my chest.
Also.
I noticed I dream more at home.
I've had more vivid dreams in the past three nights here at home than I had the past months at school. I wonder why that is. Dreams fascinate me. I can't wait til we can review them on a screen. It's coming, folks.

Plans for the day:
Dance with Appleline
Fellowship
Camping

Sam got me hooked on Bubble Spinner.
This is my recent high score.
I like collecting high scores for some reason.

My mom has been into Reflexology lately and
she has these gloves that map out your reflexes.
They make me really happy.

Leave

It's strange. Now when I leave, I've grown into
this odd stage of anger, not sadness. Almost
bitterness. Am I that unsettled with things?!
Sheesh! And even after I read this, I know
I'm fine, but it's like these surges roll
over me in waves and I hate the wait.

I must be ready to go home.

What an angsty post!

Finishing Up the Last Finals

This is part of my 3D final -- le wooden stones.
They're not exactly how I imagined, but it seems
like none of the 3D projects really turn out that
way anyhow. Haha I'm excited to have it all up
and be done with it once and for all. I think I
may continue to work with wood this summer.
I have a wood grain fetish growing right now....

P.S. Those are phone images, not the highest of quality.

HARRY POTTER EXHIBITION!

$26 in Chicago??
I'm totally there this summer.

Friday, May 08, 2009

Sigh. Last full week of school is over.

I love that lately everyone has been on the lawn. Even the people we don't normally hang out with. Everyone has the same thing in common -- we love the Spring!

Great Thursday!

Word of the Day:
Phlegmatic -- calm, cool, composed, collected, controlled, serene, tranquil, placid, impassive, unruffled, philosophical

Today was wonderful. I woke up for my SB interview, which was pretty chill, and then went outside for the entire day. I saw almost everyone I knew from MCAD and started a great farmer's tan. (And I thought it would be near impossible without marching band every summer!) I was probably out there for a total of 8 magical hours, chatting and dancing and singing. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and had perfect timing.

I watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Last Chance Harvey, and The Office today. All three were VERY solid. I've decided that being outside makes me pooped to the extreme, so pretty much all night, all I felt like doing was sitting in front my screen, mindlessly. It's been a while!

Callie texted me and said there was blue lightning around her parts. I miss that form of weather. It seems to be rare here, and I dearly wish it was more common. That's one of the reasons I can't wait to go home; I love cheesy moments with friends like watching lightning and driving through the rain just because. I'm such a sucker for feel-good moments, I can't help it! And I always expect other people to see things the way I do. It doesn't always work, duh. But. Mleh, I seem to forget that in my immediate expectations of others.

And now to tend to my sunburns and loss of LOST.

Yours Truly,
Number One

Taco Truck!

Word of the Day:

Homage
1 a: expression of high regard : respect
b: something that shows respect or attests to the worth or influence of another : tribute.

Today was phenomenal. Reasons?
  1. Last day of work in the Business Office.
  2. Sat on the lawn with my pals.
  3. Last day of GD. We turned in our process books and ate pizza. Then we had a crit on our 10 images of "stellar Graphic Design" and then watched movies. END.
  4. More sittage on the lawn outside.
  5. Last real class of Maurice Sendak.
  6. Free Pizza at Lost
  7. Free tacos from the Taco Truck! Charlotte, Tuesday, and I sat in the new wooden/metal spaceship out on the lawn and made weird alien noises while we feasted. Then I sat on hot sauce and we ran away.
This weekend/last week will be busy! Reasons?
  1. Tomorrow = SB Interview. I'm really stoked and really want to work in there. I already love pretty much everyone in there and I love paper and printing and. Sheesh. It's a good time to be a freshman.

  11. Sunday = GOING HOME! Wahoooo!

Below is my final mark for our GD project. I love Wildebears!

Surprisingly

Surprisingly I am ultra happy this Finals Week. There are so many things to look forward to, to look back on, and to look at. MCAD is so beautiful right now. I love its students' work. And I have come to the realization that the quality of work I see isn't as far away as it was in the beginning of the year. And that, my friends, is an encouraging thought!

Other things to note:
  1. Today I bled for the first time in 3D. I was sanding my stones on the circular saw and WOOP! There goes my pointer finger's flesh! "Mm, blood!" exclaims Edward.
  2. My Wildebear Process Book is finished and it's wonderful to have it out of the computer and into my hands. It didn't turn out exactly how I imagined, but that's no one's fault. Tis the way it goes!
  3. Sims 3 comes out in June.
  4. I was at school for 15 hours straight today.
  5. Tomorrow is my last day at work and my last GD class. SO happy about that.
  6. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the last week of school. Goodbye freshman year!
  7. I have an interview to work in the SB on Thursday. Wahoo!
  8. Erin and I are going to make smores in 11 days.
  9. When I get home, I'm setting up my tent and sleeping outside.
  10. I can't wait to live with my pals next semester.
  11. I will miss my MCADians over le summer very very much.
  12. I miss Ethan right now.
  13. I still have something in my eye 13.5 hours and one shower later.
  14. My room is a pit and I can't keep up with dishes.
  15. It's a fun challenge trying to eat every spec of food I have left.
  16. Taco Truck tomorrow night.
  17. LOST tomorrow night.
  18. I want more CMYK Rollerball...without the roller.
  19. I can't wait to ride my bike and to be free for those 4 days after school is out.
  20. A thunderstorm would be delectible.
  21. The grey couch is phenomenal.
  22. I have spread the disease of the Growling Tummy.
  23. I have lots of papers to write.
  24. This stream of consciousness is perfect for how busy my mind has beed.
  25. It's really time for bed....

Saturday, May 02, 2009

The Glorious Saturday

Reasons why Saturday, May 2nd has been wonderful:

  1. CMYK Rollerskating Ball.
  2. Slept in.
  3. Made guacamole for the first time.
  4. Had a picnic.
  5. Worked in the library.
  6. Slept on the gray couch in the library.
  7. Had dinner with Fowler and Marissa.
  8. Tried plantains for the first time.
  9. Got pruney fingers from dishes.
  10. It's gorgeous out.
  11. It's not even 8 o'clock yet.

Uffda

I watched Twilight last night and liked it in a sort of I'm-not-supposed-to-but-I-kind-of-do/Sarah's-loving-Love-again way. Also, I'm drawn to movies with heavy color schemes, Twilight being a constant blue.

Word of the day:
Juggernaut

A note on Finals:
Dude. Not feelin' the pressure. Just as money, Finals will come and go. It's tight at times, but we always pull through.

And next is the Summer o' Change. I really want to get up and get moving. I want to work, I want to sweat in the miserly Missouri sun, I want to travel, and most importantly, I want to come back to MCAD with a better work ethic than this year. With 4 Studio classes and Work Study somewhere (hopefully in the SB!), I won't have time to sit around like I do. I want to be able to use my time wisely and do GOOD work. I've been in a state of disappointing myself because of my own laziness. I won't, however, fall into condemnation; I'm just in a state of realization.

The World hasn't been too hard for me STILL. I always find a way through things or I get lucky or I just get by without any expectations. I'm still wondering, will Life ever be truly hard? I don't understand why everything has been so easy for me. It makes me feel numb to any pain I see around me. Or is that just people inflicting pain upon themselves? Have I just figured out how to deal with life and living in ways other people haven't?

Shwew. This post got heavy fast.

Last night I had the kind of dreams that you don't want to end when you wake up. I always wonder then -- what part of my life is so unsatisfying that I would rather live in my dreams? And, you should know, my dreams are never TOO far from a possible reality. Sure, I have a few that are displaced, but in general -- they are very realistic.
